Women's Singles and Men's Triples
Last weekend was a busy one. Our women players fought out their Singles Championship on A-Green while the men contested the Triples Championship on B-Green. Cloudy cool weather made for ideal bowling conditions and those who spent time watching were privy to the usual  high standard of bowling that our club is known for.  Barbara Exeter and Mandy Boyd contested the women's final - and what a contest! Both played superb bowls all the way through with Mandy clinching the title 21-19. Congratulations to both players and thank you, Mandy and Barbara, for giving us such an enthralling display.

In the men's championship the finalists were Jack Halka (s), Frank Grantham, Ewen McLauchlan and Ernie Friedlander (s), Bryan Gilbertson, Johnny Ward. I told Jack Halka during the week it was greedy to win two titles in two weeks ... but he didn't listen. Not only did his team win but they did so with their two lives still intact. They did not have the final all their own way. Ernie, Bryan and Johnny made them work hard for their 14-12 victory. Congratulations Jack, Frank and Ewen on a well-deserved Championship title.

QUOTE
May you have
Enough happiness to make you sweet,
Enough trials to make you strong,
Enough sorrow to keep you human,
Enough hope to make you happy.

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE
It is important you develop your own pre-shot routine.
This will help ensure a consistent and accurate delivery.
  • Decide on the type of shot (draw, run, drive, yard on, etc)
  • Position the bowl in the hand
  • Identify the line
  • Visualise the shot (line, weight)
  • Confirm the line and focus point
  • Move onto the mat

I wish someone would tell Wilma she is facing the wrong way

Isn't Morris facing the wrong way too? What about Del and Maree?

JOHN

Question: I was playing a game when the opposing skip said to me, “Watch so-and-so, he’s delivering his bowl before the other person’s bowl has come to rest.”
When does possession of the rink transfer to the other team?

Law 35        Possession of the Rink
Possession of the rink will belong to the player or team whose bowl is being played. As soon as each bowl comes to rest, possession of the rink will transfer to the opposing player or team after allowing time for marking a toucher as soon as it comes to rest.

ETIQUETTE  -  Behind The Mat
Hand your opponent’s bowl to him/her or place it next to the mat.
Stand at least 1 metre behind the mat.
The bowls should be to the rear and side of the mat. If the bowls are directly behind the mat they can be a danger to those players who step back after delivering a bowl.
There should not be too much talking behind the mat; it can disrupt the player’s concentration.

A Man With a Bucket
An elderly man in Queensland had owned a large property for several years.  He had a dam in one of the lower paddocks where he had planted mango and avocado trees.  The dam had been fixed up for swimming when it was built and he also had some picnic tables placed there in the shade of the fruit trees.

One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the dam to look it over, as he hadn't been there for a while. He grabbed a ten litre bucket to bring back some fruit.  As he neared the dam, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his dam.

He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"

The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the dam naked."

Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the crocodile."
