Gig, don't be deceived by the friendly arm on the shoulder Finalists in the Women's Pairs
Barbara, Sheryl, Irene, Tessa

Women's Pairs (Sat 31 Oct and Sun Nov 1)
This event is down to the last two - Sheryl Glock (S) Barbara Exeter (L) and Irene Newbold (S) and Tessa Hocking (L) - each with one life. Both teams won very close games in the previous round against Val Ives (S) and Maureen Parsons (L) and Sue Brock (S) and Marie Turner (L). Both games went down to last end with losers having a chance to win.

There was a lot of good bowls played over the weekend with the good form of the newer bowlers being most noticeable.
Thank you Bruce M for covering the above two events while I was away.

Women's Junior Pairs   (Sat 7 & Sun 8)
Last Saturday's weather was made for bowling - blue skies, little wind, warm temperatures - and the bowling lived up to the weather. These bowlers might be Juniors but each was competitive and shots played lived up to the high standard we have come to expect of our newer bowlers. By the close of play on Day 1 three teams were left; Lois Hook/Nancy Dunnett, Colleen McLaughlin/Barbara Exeter and Angela Boyd/Tessa Hocking. On Sunday morning Lois and Nancy were beaten by Angela and Tessa so the final was between Colleen/Barbara and Angela/Tessa. By the midway point the score was 8-7 but then Angela and Tessa edged away and won comfortably. Congratulations to Angela and Tessa for winning the title. Well done to Colleen and Barbara for playing well and finishing runner-up.

QUOTE
When you were born, you were crying
And everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so that when you die,
You're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

COACH - The “Pendulum Swing” Bowling Action
(You are on the mat about to deliver the bowl)

Swing bowling arm down and back as you step forward and lower the body
Swing arm forward as the heel of the leading foot makes contact with the surface
Delivery arm is straight
Release bowl when
- directly below shoulder and
- alongside toe of leading foot
Slide non-bowling arm down to rest on thigh
Bowling arm follows through with palm facing upwards. Keep head still
Stay down – move forward – stand up slowly
Watch the bowl till it stops

Question: Some time ago I was in a game where a person played someone else’s bowl and it was a toucher.  What should happen?

Law 47.2     Playing another player’s bowl
1. If a player plays another player’s bowl instead of their own, the other player’s bowl should be replaced with the player’s own bowl.
2. If the bowl which was replaced was marked or nominated as a toucher, the player’s own bowl should be marked or nominated as a toucher.

ETIQUETTE  -  Following Your Bowl Up The Rink
After you have delivered a bowl and before it has come to rest you have two options;
(1) go behind the head,  or
(2) go behind the mat.
If you want to track your bowl's progress
you must be behind the head when it stops. In other words you must beat it to the head. If you don't go to the head you must be behind the mat when your bowl stops.

Missing Taxi
Fred came running into the club and said to his friend Dave,
"Dave, somebody just stole your taxi from the car park!"
Dave replied, "Did you see who it was?"
Fred answered, "I couldn't tell, but I got the licence number."
