Men's Championship Pairs Final.
What a cliff-hanger the semifinal was with Allen Boardman & Dave Roberts ending up the eventual winners over Bryan Gilbertson and Ernie Friedlander.

Allen and Dave then took on Bruce Mitchell & Ray Falvey in the final which lived up to what we have come to expect of finals. Scores were close all the way through with Bruce and Ray edging ahead in the last two ends. Congratulations to Bruce and Ray who won 18-14.

Men's Championship Singles Final
At the same time as the final above was being played Lex Parsons and Morris Williams played the singles final. Humid blustery energy-sapping conditions made bowling difficult yet each end was fiercely fought. At the half way point the score was 11-11 but towards the end Lex was able to manage the conditions a little better and eventually won 21-16. Congratulations Lex

QUOTE

The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own.
You do not blame them on your parents, the ecosystem, or the government.
You realise that you control your own destiny.

ETIQUETTE - Spectators Must Be Neutral
When watching a game always observe strict neutrality.
Advice or criticism must not be given.
Players should not sit on the edges of the green.

COACH
Fluid Intake
If you want to maintain maximum concentration during a game of bowls it is important you keep up your water intake. This becomes even more critical when playing for lengthy periods. "A sip on the water bottle every second end" is a good suggestion. Avoid alcohol because it is a diuretic (increases unwanted dehydration).

Question: Last Saturday a jack was struck, hit a stationary bowl and rebounded forward instead of backward. Do you know the minimum distance you can have between the moved jack and the front end of the mat?

Law 30        Dead jack
If the jack is moved by a bowl in play, it is a dead jack if it:
·   passes above the face of the bank;
·   passes completely outside a side boundary of the rink of play;
·   comes to rest in any hollow in the face of the bank; or
·   comes to rest at a distance of less than 20 metres as measured in a straight line from the mat line.

Carpark Meeting
Two psychologists met in the carpark outside the Club last Friday afternoon. Jim said to Brendan, “Your’re looking good today. How am I?”

Answering Machine answers
Hi! John’s answering machine is broken. This is his refrigerator. Please speak very slowly and I’ll stick your message to myself with one of these magnets.

Hi! I am probably home, I am just avoiding someone I don’t like. Leave me a message and if I don’t call back, it’s you.

GALA  March 10th 2010
