Jan Shirley - Black Jack
We rejoice with Morrie Shirley's family over the announcement that Jan Shirley, his daughter-in-law, has been included in the NZ Black Jacks Bowling team to play in Delhi in an eight Nation test later this year.

Shirley is a current player in the Bowls NZ regional talent development squad and has shown consistent performance over the past two years. Recent performances have seen her win the women’s pairs in the Trusts NZ Open and runner-up status in the 2009/2010 Women’s singles at the Hyundai National Open Championships. Fellow team-mate and Black Jack, Jan Khan won the prestigious title.

Volunteer needed
The club needs a volunteer to paint the "clock" we use on the bowling green. It is not a real clock, of course, just an imaginary one but we use it to tell players when a game will finish. If you think you can help or you want more information please contact Craig Ennor (ph 8440401). Thank you.

#########QUOTE - Intelligence  v  Wisdom
A good lead shows intelligence and promise when he can
spot a flaw in his skip's bowling. He shows wisdom as well if he refrains from pointing it out.
Etiquette - Mobile Phones
Mobile Phones should not be used on or around the green.

COACHING CORNER

Positive Thoughts Are Important
You can influence your performance by your thoughts. Be aware of what is going on without focusing entirely on what you are doing.  (A pianist can lose the ability to play by focusing whole of attention only on what the fingers are doing.)

The physical skill must be learned and practised until it is an automatic process. Worry (eg. about poor last bowl) tends to increase what might go wrong. Thoughts should all be directed toward building confidence and self-esteem.

Focus on the task- the here and now.

Identify the task then do it.

Question: Last month our lead delivered the jack and at the same time a bowl from the next rink came very close to hitting our moving jack. I asked several people what should happen if their bowl had come any closer to our jack and I received varying answers;
(a) stop their bowl
(b) stop our jack
(c) let them collide

Collision Between Jack And Bowl
If a moving jack and moving bowl are going to collide - you let them. They are both redelivered

LAW 33.3     Jack displacement by a neutral person or neutral object
Displacement of a jack in its original course
If a jack in its original course is displaced by a neutral person or neutral object, it should be re-delivered by the same player.

Caller (enquiring about legal requirements while travelling in Europe )
"If I register my car in France , and then take it to England , do I have to change the steering
wheel to the other side of the car?"

Caller: "Can you give me the telephone number for Jack?"
Operator: "I'm sorry, sir, I don't understand who you are talking about."
Caller: "On page 1, section 5, of the user guide it clearly
states that I need to unplug the fax machine from the AC wall socket and telephone Jack before cleaning. Now, can you give me the number for Jack?"
Operator: "I think it means the telephone plug on the wall."

Some bowlers are like pins:
Useless when they lose their heads.

Two confirmed bachelors sat talking, their conversation drifted from politics to cooking. "I got a cookbook once," said one, "but I could never do anything with it." "Too much fancy work in it, eh?" asked the other. "You said it. Every one of the recipes began the same way - 'Take a clean dish."
