Men's Junior Championship Pairs
Yesterday saw the continuation of the Men's Junior Pairs.
Dave Jenkins & Dave Scott had two lives while one-lifers
included Barry Gardner & Geoff Taylor and Dave Jones & Dave
Roberts. Failing weather meant all the
games could not be completed but Dave
Jenkins & Dave Scott lost one of their
lives and Barry Gardner & Geoff Taylor succumbed and are now out of
contention. This means at long last we have reached a final.
Yet to play in the final are "all the Daves". Dave Jones & Dave Roberts will
play Dave Jenkins & Dave Scott.
Thank you Bruce Mitchell.
I am sure your job is pleasant on a good day but it must be "the pits" when the weather turns bad. |

Champion of Champion
Men's Singles
COC Men's Singles were played at Napier last Saturday. Congratulations to
Tony East (Kia Toa) who beat Paul Selby (Heretaunga) in the final. |
|
Champion of Champion
Junior Women's Singles
Wintry weather halted play after two rounds at Bay View today. The
semifinals between Havelock North/Kia Toa and Omarunui/Taradale
will be played on April 11th.
|
Champion of Champion Men's Fours
This was played on our A-Green but poor weather meant players had to stop at
the semifinals. Games will continue in April - check Bowls HB website for
details. From memory the semifinalists are Port Ahuriri, Waipawa, Napier and ??? |

Cancellation of Centre Open Mixed Pairs
(Bowls HB website)
Bowls Hawke's Bay regrets to advise that the Centre
Open Mixed Pairs (that was initially postponed because of adverse
weather) has been cancelled due to too many withdrawals, substitutes and
replacements. The entry fee that was paid will be reimbursed to teams ASAP. The
event is now scheduled to be played early next season. |

Friends Day (LAST
REMINDER)
Wednesday March 31 has been set aside as Friends Day. This is the day when
we invite someone from another club to join us in Hetero Triples. Dress is
mufti and play commences at 10.00 am. Last year this was a very popular
event; let us try to make the 2010 day just as memorable. Each team is
expected to have at least one visitor. There is no entry fee.
Entries to Lois Hook
8446121
We, the hosts, are expected to bring a plate for afternoon
tea and to contribute something that can be used on the raffle table.
There is a box in the club house where items for the
raffle can be left. Thanks
Kittyhawk National Under 20's
Good luck to the four Hawkes Bay bowlers representing Region
3 in Auckland over Easter. Bowls Taradale can feel proud
to have three representatives in the group - Richard Hocking,
Tessa Hocking and Mandy Boyd. The fourth member is Dean Drummond
from Kia Toa. Good Bowling!

Would you like to
challenge yourself?
(2ND
REMINDER)
Just a reminder that we only
have a few weeks to our AGM (20 June) and we need to be looking at a full
panel of applicants for committee etc. We are desperately in need of a
volunteer for the secretarial position. Irene has done a tremendous job, for
which we are very grateful, but other pressures mean she is unable to carry
on in 2010 -2111, so we need help there. You do NOT
need to have shorthand skills. Neither does it have to be a position for a
female, so come on you folk out there. It's your
club. Take some ownership of it and put something back.
I look forward to your response.
Craig

QUOTE
No matter how your feel, get up, dress up and show up.
A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute. He may
not seem such a good friend after telling. |

Congratulations
Maree and Russell became grandparents for the first time when baby
Connor William (6lb 11oz) was born last Thursday. From what I have heard
mother and baby (and grandparents!!!) are all doing well

Etiquette -
Walk The Line
When walking up the green try and keep to the middle - don’t encroach on the
adjoining rink. Remember other players on adjoining rinks. |
Happy
40th Wedding Anniversary Phil and
Carol - last Friday 26th
Your bowling mates hope you had a very pleasant
celebration with family and friends. |
COACHING CORNER
BE PROUD OF YOUR CLUB
Be proud of your club and protect it from gossip. If you disapprove of some
action taken by your committee, tell the committee, not the world. Support
your club's revenue making activities - the benefits will come back to you.
Learn the laws of the game and if you want to succeed practise as often as
you can - and include the rolling of the jack. |
|
Names in by 12.45 pm
Could club members please remember that names
for "Roll Up" are meant to be in by 12:45. If they are not, you run the risk
of missing out. It is not the easiest task to try to get a reasonably
"balanced" draw and late arrivals don't help. Thanks. Craig |

Question: I was playing a game of triples on a very windy day when a
sudden gust of wind caused the jack to move about half a metre. Should you leave
the jack in its new position, or put it back, or ???
Law 53 Unforeseen incidents
If, during the course of play, the position of the jack or a bowl is altered by
the wind, a storm or any other unforeseen incident, the skips or opponents in
Singles should put the jack or bowl back to its former position. If they cannot
agree on the jack’s or bowl’s former position, they should declare the end dead. |

IT ONLY TAKES ONE
If bowling was compulsory
and work became a crime,
If kitties were all magnetized
and you drew it every time,
If
your bowl went where it should have
and never varied much,
If
everyone just shook your hand
because you had that magic touch,
If
all the bowlers fraternized
and not one soul got jealous,
If
the weakest bowler in the club
could bowl like Peter Belliss,
If
bunny girls and beer and wine
were free, have what you choose,
And
the clubhouse a casino, where you never ever lose,
It would be such a jolly club,
yet some perverted owl
Some pessimistic bloomin' cow
would stuff it up and growl. |
