Open Forum - Pettigrew Green Arena, 7pm on
Monday 19th April
(Bowls HB website)
The Bowls Hawke’s Bay Board cordially invites you to attend an Open Forum to
discuss the findings of the recently circulated Questionnaire and to enable
planning for the 2010-2011 season to proceed. The meeting will be held in the
Theatre at Pettigrew Green Arena at 7pm on Monday 19th April.
Please confirm numbers attending to either: Carole Miller 877 7225, Peter Bryant
843 4020, Ces Bell 845 3112
Agenda for your consideration and discussion - we look forward to a constructive
and progressive evening.
- It is proposed that we introduce an
Inter-Club competition commencing from the 2010-2011 season. This competition
will be played over a series of Saturday mornings and will replace the
existing 7’s event.
It is appreciated that this will have a significant impact on the present Club
Programmes, hence the early notice and the need for discussion at both Club
and Centre levels.
- It is proposed that regular Quarterly
meetings be held between the Board, Club Delegates, Umpires, Coaching and
Greenkeepers’ personnel.
- It is proposed that a Greens’ Allocation
Committee be appointed to cover all Centre fixtures.
- It is proposed that consideration be given
to removing time-limit restrictions on all Centre Open Post-section play.
- It is proposed that consideration be given
to running the Men’s Centre Open Fours as a mid-week event.
- It is proposed that out-side assistance be
sought to improve the standard of our greens and to demonstrate the commitment
we have to our local greenkeepers.
- Discussion of Draft Programme.
- It is proposed that an Operations Committee
be appointed, taking effect from the 2011-2012 season. This Operations
Committee would be responsible for the running of all Centre and
Representative events. This Committee would liase with the Umpire, Coaching
and Greenkeepers’ Associations and would report directly to the Board.

Winter Season Friday Hetero Triples
Tournaments
These will begin on Friday 14th May, Mufti,
12.00 p.m. start.
Entries to Lois 8446121.
Lois will take a season entry, on the
condition that, if for any reason your team cannot "front" you are
responsible for finding a replacement team. Our suggestion to help
overcome this is that you have a "base" of at least 4 players to cover for the
inevitable unavailability of a member and work a rotation "stand down" turn.
We think you will find that if it is your turn to stand down, there will be
another team looking for a "fill in". This way Lois is able to plan
confidently, and arrange greens and cards accordingly.

COACHING CORNER
TALK TO YOURSELF AND USE YOUR IMAGINATION
Many bowlers talk to themselves to help their focus or concentration. It can
also be used to relieve pressure and maintain that calm, relaxed, in-control
state, which is so important when performing a set of skills.
Imagery is probably the most neglected and under developed ability we have.
Jack Nicklaus says 90% of playing a good golf shot is setting yourself up
correctly then picturing in your mind how the shot will happen. Bowling is
no different.
PRE-SHOT ROUTINE - Position the jack in the hand, Identify the line,
Visualise the delivery – line and weight, Move onto the mat.
Remember the two essential skills:
·
Smooth release (rolling the bowl away on its running surface)
·
Straight lines (delivering the bowl consistently down the intended line).
|
Foot-faulting:
Last week someone told another bowler that she might be foot-faulting because
she was lifting her foot off the mat before delivering the bowl. Does the foot
have to be in contact with the mat at the moment of the bowl's release? Will
part of the foot be enough? What if the foot is off the mat but above it?
Law 20 Position on the mat
Before delivery a player should be standing on the mat with one foot fully on
the mat. At the moment they deliver the jack or a bowl, the player should have
all or part of one foot on or above the mat. |

Three sons left
home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together, they discussed
the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.
The first said,
"I built a big house for Mum."
The second
said. "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver."
The third
smiled and said, "I've got you both beat. You remember how Mum enjoyed reading
the Bible? And you know she can't see very well. So I sent her a remarkable
parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took elders in the church 12 years to
teach him. He's one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and
the parrot recites it."
Soon afterwards Mum
sent out her letters of thanks:
"Milton," she
wrote one son. "The house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I
have to clean the whole house."
"Gerald," she
wrote to another, "I am too old to travel. I stay most of the time at home. so
I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!"
"Dearest
Donald," she wrote to her third son, "You have the good sense to know what your
mother likes. The chicken was delicious."
