WOMEN'S INTERCLUB TRIPLES
We had only one team playing yesterday (Saturday). They won
against Port Ahuriri (see results chart below)
WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS
The recently introduced Interclub competition meant our
Women's Championship Pairs did not start until 1.00 pm. Twelve
teams played two rounds using a two-life system. By day's
close three teams had won both their games, six teams had won one game
and lost the other while the remaining three teams lost both
their games.
I have been busy elsewhere all weekend so my apologies if the following
results are not accurate.
Two Lifers: Angela Boyd & Linda Boyd / Sue Brock
& Maree Turner / Sheryl Glock & Barbara Exeter
One Lifers: Colleen McLaughlin & Del Girven / Irene
Millar & Shirley Goffin / Sherrill Taylor & Brenda Falvey /
Marie Fenton & Irene Newbold / Julie Haslett & Diane Mitchell
/ Anne Dempsey & Bernice Neilson

October Roll Up
Just a reminder that
there is no roll up at Taradale this coming Saturday, but Bowls
Napier have generously made their green available to us. It is
mufti, names in by 1:15. They normally play until around 4pm.

EVERYONE HAS RESPONSIBILITIES
All Bowlers should know and understand the Laws of the Game.
Bowls is a friendly game.
Consideration for others, courtesy and good sportsmanship will add
enjoyment to a skilful and rewarding pastime.
If all bowlers were familiar with what their responsibilities are as
players and as club members bowling would be such a pleasant sport. |

RUSSELL + BOB + STEVE
Last week Russell Turner said he and Maree had a spare computer which
they wanted to donate to our club. I sent out an email asking if
anyone had a spare printer and Bob Stanbridge obliged. When we tried
to get the computer and the printer to work together we had problems so I took
everything to
Steve Pearce at Toast Computers. Steve donated our club a better computer then got
it all up and running free of charge.
Thank you Russell, Bob and Steve. |
This is a picture of the new computer
that Toast Computers is donating
to Bowls Taradale.
More details to follow.

LAWS
AND ETIQUETTE
I will be running two short "Laws and/or etiquette" sessions on next
Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th evenings this week, from 5:00 until
about 6:30, which all members are welcome to attend. While it will be
of interest to our newer members, it also should be of interest to
more senior bowlers. I sat and watched a roll up the other day and the
totally incorrect procedures of some of our "should know better"
bowlers, two of whom were skips, surprised me and highlighted an area
we have slipped up on. Please also bring along your own questions
and/or uncertainties. It will be very relaxed and is just intended to
make the game more enjoyable. I will look forward to seeing you there.

GOLDEN GIRLS RETURN
Last week, in snowy, icy, windy Invercargill, Del Girven and Bev
Stuart (along with husband Les) competed in the NZ "55 plus"
Tenpin Bowling competitions. Del won GOLD in the Singles while Bev
won GOLD in the Fours. Congratulations from all your friends at
Bowls Taradale.

QUESTION
Last weekend the umpire had to use the long tape measure to see if the
jack was the correct minimum distance. What is the shortest legal
distance from the centre front of the mat to the jack?
(a) 19m (b) 21m (c) 23m (d) 25m
Law 23 Improper delivery of the jack
The jack has been improperly delivered if it comes to rest less than
23 metres from the mat line after the jack has been centred

Party Time
Remember the 60’s ???
Your bowling club has decided it’s time we brushed off some
cobwebs and show we still know how to have a good time. On the 20th
Nov. we are hosting a good old “Cabaret” style night at the
Taradale Club. Starting at 6 pm and having a buffet meal followed
by dancing and entertainment that you would be normally be paying
“big bucks” for, we are inviting/advising you to get in early.
Indications are that we will sell out very quickly. Make up a
party of 8, not necessarily bowlers, (get a group of your friends
together) and book early. Tickets are only $40 each. Contact Lucky
Roberts on 8450215 or the Taradale Club 8440288 |

THIS
IS A HOLD-UP
A hooded robber burst into the Taradale BNZ Bank and forced the tellers to load a
sack full of cash. On his way out the door a brave customer grabbed
the hood and pulled it off revealing the robber's face. The robber
shot the customer without a moment's hesitation. He then looked around
the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The
robber instantly shot him also. Everyone else, by now very scared,
looked intently down at the floor in silence.
The
robber yelled, "Well, did anyone else see my face?"
There
are a few moments of utter silence, in which everyone was plainly
afraid to speak. ....
Then one old man tentatively raised his hand and said, "My wife got a
good look at you." |
