INTERCLUB
Another round of interclub games were played last Saturday morning. See charts below for progress results

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS
The first round of club championships got off to a flying start yesterday, Saturday. With interclub taking up most of the morning Championship play did not commence until the afternoon and continued all through Sunday. Although strong windy conditions meant bowling was more difficult than usual I never cease to be amazed at the quality of bowling that is seen in our club.

Women's 4's
Seven teams started this Championship and by the close of play on Sunday the finalists had been decided. Angela Boyd (skip), Sheryl Glock, Marie Fenton and Barbara Exeter will play Sue Brock (skip), Del Girven, Maree Turner and Lynda Boyd. In the semifinal the scores finished tied so an extra end had to be played and Sue's team was victorious. This was the first loss for Angela's team so the two will meet again at a future date to play the final.

Men's Fours
Twelve teams started in this event and by Sunday night the Finalists had been decided. The semifinal was between Rolly Hoare (skip), Peter Thomson, Gary deRidder and Lyndsay Martin and Ross Hamilton (skip), Peter Turnbull, Jack Philip and Bryan Gilbertson. Rolly's team won this game so they will play the final against Barry Hanlen (skip), Brian Annear, John Hanlen and John McLaughlin.

OVER 65's
You will all have noticed by now that there is a brand new competition coming up for the "experienced" bowlers ie. the over 65's.

Your club has initiated a series of tournaments for us older players. Each competition will be held on a Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday being qualifying day and Thursday "sudden death". The singles is the first competition and is being played on Wed 10th and Thurs 11th Nov. It is an open competition ie. open to all clubs, so to be sure of a place get your entries in to Lois on 8446121 quickly.

The pairs, being held in December, the triples in January and the fours in Feb, must contain at least 1 member of the opposite sex, not hetero as shown in the handbook. It is intended to be a fun competition.

The entry fee is only $10 per player and we feel prize money is good at $100 each for the winners and $50 each for the runners up. So get cracking and make this new competition a winner.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Practice sessions develop and build on existing skills.
Match play is where those skills will be demonstrated.
Quality practice induces and requires high levels of concentration.
This will flow on into match performance.
Focus attention on developing sound routines until they become automatic.

Bowlers need to practise skills on a daily basis.
It is only by doing this that one can become good at the skill.

Some examples of skills might be: Draw to a jack, draw to a spilled jack, draw to the ditch, wrest a bowl with a yard-on, drive a bowl or the jack, play a run shot, deliver the jack – short, medium, long.

  Irene knows the importance of practice

WHEN THE MAT IS YOURS
Lie the mat straight in line with the number on the bank and the centre of the mat.
When you are delivering a bowl the mat belongs to you.
You have the right to stay on the mat until the bowl stops.

HELPERS WANTED - Men's Championship Singles
Our Club Men's Championship Singles will be played on Saturday 30th October starting at 8.30 am
Sunday 31st will be the second day - and the numbers of markers will gradually reduce as players are eliminated.
Markers are urgently needed both days.

Entries in this event are larger than usual. That must be a good sign for the club but it poses headaches for the organisers. It is possible that the first day may be played in two divisions until numbers become more manageable. If volunteer marker numbers are too few then players may be asked to help with marking. Please be prepared - and watch the noticeboard.

If you can assist please add your name to the sheet provided in the shed.
If you are only available morning or afternoon please indicate that alongside your name.
Thank you.

QUESTION
How might a jack be delivered improperly?

Law 23   Improper Delivery of the Jack
The jack has been improperly delivered if it comes to rest:

·         in the ditch;

·         completely outside the boundaries of the rink;

·         less than 23 metres from the mat line after the jack has been centred;

·         on the rink after contact with the face of the bank; or

·         on the rink after contact with any object or person completely outside the boundaries of the rink.

A REAL BARGAIN
Paddy and Mick are walking down a street in London. Paddy happens to look in one of the shop windows and sees a sign that catches his eye. The sign said: "Suits £5.00 each, Shirts £2.00 each, Trousers £2.50 per pair."

Paddy says to his pal, "Mick, look! We could buy a whole lot of dose, and when we get back to Ireland we could make a fortune. Now when we go into the shop, you be quiet, OK? Just let me do all the talking, cause if they hear our accent, they might not be nice to us. I'll speak in my best English accent."

"Roight y'are, Paddy, I'll keep me mouth shut, so I will," replies Mick.

They go in and Paddy says, "I'll take 50 suits at £5.00 each, 100 shirts  at £2.00 each, and 50 pairs of trousers at £2.50 each. I'll back up my van and..."

The owner of the shop interrupts. "You're from Ireland, aren't you?"

"Well... Yes," says a surprised Paddy. "How der hell d' y' know dat?"

The owner replied, "This is the Dry Cleaners."
