We live in an age where it is becoming increasingly more difficult to fund all the things we want. Sponsors help lighten that load. You will notice a change just above this paragraph where we are acknowledging the help given to us either directly or via the Mother Club. Please be grateful for the assistance of these sponsors, make use of their services and let them know you value their help.

Taranaki Savings Bank
is the latest sponsor to come on board.
Thank you, TSB

INTERCLUB
There was only one Interclub game played last weekend - one of our Women's triples team v Heretaunga - (Div B)
See results chart below

CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLES - MEN AND WOMEN
Our greens really do look well when they are used as fully as they were this weekend - sunny weather helps. Eighteen men's triples teams began bowling at 8.30 am and continued all day Saturday and Sunday. At 1.00 pm on Saturday the Women's Triples Championship got under way with ten teams entered. In both events it was particularly pleasing to see relatively new bowlers getting involved. There is nothing like competition to make you concentrate better and improve your skill levels.

MEN - Sunday morning saw five men's teams still in contention. Teams belonging to Ernie Friedlander and Gary Heathcote each had two lives while one lifers included Bruce Mitchell, Rolly Hoare and Rex Dunn. The balmy day that was Saturday changed to gusty winds and squally rain on Sunday. Eventually two teams remained alive and the final was played mid afternoon. Consistent draw bowling saw Gary Heathcote, Bruce Ferrick and Alan Ferrick prevail over Ernie Friedlander, Bryan Gilbertson and Johnny Ward. Congratulations Gary, Bruce and Alan in not losing one game all weekend.

WOMEN - On Sunday morning three teams remained unbeaten; Angela Boyd, Sue Brock, Maree Turner. One lifers included Val Ives, Ann Dempsey, Colleen McLaughlin and Paula Evans. As the day progressed the team of Angela Boyd, Sheryl Glock and Barbara Exeter won all their games. They will now have to play a potential final against (one-lifer) Sue Brock, Lynda Boyd and Jean Speakman.

GARDNER SHIELD
This interclub event began last week and will continue for eight Mondays. Each club enters two teams of triples.

DELIVERING THE JACK
This sometimes appears to be one of the least-practised skills that bowlers need to have.

Deliver jack using same action as for a bowl

Hold jack on the main fingers with thumb on top and wrist locked
Move onto the mat
Anchor foot is placed on the centre of the mat
Identify the line

Visualise the delivery (line, weight)
Deliver the jack along the line aiming at the focus point
Lock the wrist and elbow
Stay low during delivery with body moving forward after you release the jack
Arm follows along intended line of delivery with palm to heaven and head still
Transfer weight to front foot

RH leaner John - LH leaner Bruce
Peter (poker faced) and John (happy)

CHECK THE NEIGHBOURS
If you are on the mat waiting to bowl check to see if anyone is delivering a bowl on the adjacent rinks.

QUESTION
You are standing on the mat watching your bowl roll towards the jack.
Sometimes a bowl finishes past the jack, sometimes it stops before the jack.
If your bowl is 1 metre short of the jack is it high or low?

HELPERS WANTED - Men's Championship Singles (30-31 October)
There has been a change in plan
Saturday - because of the large number of entries the first day's play will see competitors divided into two sections. One section will play two games and the other section will act as markers. In the afternoon this will be reversed.

Sunday - MARKERS WILL BE REQUIRED.
If you can assist please add your name to the sheet provided in the shed.
Thank you

EVERY MAN NEEDS AN UNDERSTANDING WOMAN

Walking into the bar, Mike said to Charlie the bartender, 'Pour me a stiff one - just had another fight with the little woman.'

'Oh yeah?' said Charlie, 'And how did this one end?'

'When it was over,' Mike replied, 'She came to me on her hands and knees.'

'Really,' said Charles, 'Now that's a switch!   What did she say?'

She said, 'Come out from under the bed, you little chicken.'
