CHAMPION OF
CHAMPIONS
WOMEN'S
TRIPLES / SINGLES
Yesterday and today the Champion of Champions Women's
Triples (Heretaunga) and Singles (Napier) were held
Women's Triples: Our team of Angela Boyd (skip),
Sheryl Glock,
Barbara Exeter was unsuccessful. The final was between Kia Toa
and Heretaunga. Congratulations to Kia Toa on winning the
Championship.
Women's Singles: Angela Boyd represented us in the COC
Women's Singles. When I looked in at Bowls Napier just before
lunch she was in the last eight and bowling well ...... I have
just had a phone call from President Pete and he told me that
Angela was in the final with
Litia Faiumu (Kia Toa) .... and that
Angela WON
21-18.
Congratulations Angela.
Just before putting this on
the internet I had a phone call from the HB Centre
representative, Jenny Hosegood, congratulating both Angela and
our club on the gracious manner in which Angela received her
award. She thanked markers, umpires and others who were
responsible for the running of the championship and spoke so
well forgetting no one. Well done, Angela. |

HOLD
YOUR TONGUE, MEN
My mother got mad at my dad the other day and went shopping to
relieve her irritation.
When she returned home she
informed him that she had bought ten new dresses.
"Ten!" he hollered "What
could any woman want with ten new dresses?"
My mother calmly replied,
"Ten new pairs of shoes!"

COACHING TIP - RELAX
The ability to remain calm and relaxed
when the game is not going well is a skill that needs to be
learned and practised.
Some techniques that can help are:
1. Deep breathing
2. Breathing by numbers (in 1 out 2 up to
10)
3. Visualise a place of calm (beach,
garden, lake, stream, a quiet place)
4. Progressive relaxation (centering,
draining the tension away)
5. Adopt a passive attitude.
6. A physically comfortable position.
7. Self talk. Relax mind and muscles.
8. Think of a number, word or symbol to
dwell on. |
|
ETIQUETTE -
BE A GOOD LOSER
What you are as a person
is far more important
than what you
are as a bowler
If you can't accept losing,
you don’t deserve to win.
|
QUESTION -
You have started measuring and a bowl falls over … Do you
start again?
YOU HAVE STARTED MEASURING AND A BOWL FALLS OVER
If a bowl falls of its own accord, it should be left in its
new position while deciding the number of shots scored
continues, and all the shots agreed before the bowl fell
will count. |
|
GREEN FEES ... CLARIFIED
There appears to be some misunderstanding relating to the
payment of green fees for the use of our greens.
Payment is on an honesty basis and can be interpreted as
follows.
1. If you are a Taradale Club (Mother Club) member you can
practise at any time, not scheduled for Bowls Club play, at no
cost.
2. If you are a visitor from another club and are just wanting
to have a quiet practise a $2 donation into the green fee box
would be appreciated.
3. If you are a visitor and wish to take part in a
competition, or roll up, and there is no entry fee payable, we
have a $5 green fee.
Please ensure the hoses are replaced if you have moved them. |

CAN-CAN
Don't forget the good work that Andrew Buckley, our bowling
chef, is doing in recycling our cans.
If you have any used cans please leave them in the receptacle
alongside the administration shed.
Andrew will use the money from their sale to buy seeds,
fertiliser and plants for the club.

Turnbull for preparing a summary of the changes to the
laws which will affect our bowlers.

WORLD BOWLS - Law Changes Effective 1 April 2011
The much awaited Bowls Law Changes has finally been
released, these new laws taking effect from 1st
April 2011.
Overall under Domestic Regulations there were few changes
that directly affect the everyday bowler, but those few
changes are quite significant: Tossing for start of the
game; Control of Score Card; Giving the mat away.
Tossing for start of game:
Rule 18.2.4 If the coin is tossed before the start of
trial ends, the option the winner of the toss chooses will
apply to both the first trial end and the first end
of the game.
It has been a habit of old to have a trial end and then
toss the coin to see who starts. This has been an
incorrect habit. From now on players must toss
prior to trial ends beginning and carry this
through to the game.
Score Cards & Score Board:
Rule 37.1.7 The Skip should be responsible for the
score card supplied by the Controlling Body while play is
in progress; enter the names of the players of both teams
on the score card; record on the score card all shots
scored for and against the team as each end is completed;
and at the end of the game record on the score card the
time that the game finished, and then sign it.
Previously the Skip has delegated this task to another
team member. In future the Skip can no longer delegate
this responsibility away, eg. in Fours to the Two. Not
any more. The Skip now controls the score card.
If only one card is used in a game then the Skip of the
team who won the toss for opening play will update the
Score Board, and the Opposing Skip will manage the Score
Card.
Giving Mat Away:
Rule 18.2.4 If the coin is tossed before the start of
trial ends, the option the winner of the toss chooses will
apply to both the first trial end and the first end
of the game.
Rule 18.4 Play in other ends: In all ends after the
first but apart from in an extra end, the winner of the
previous scoring end should place the mat and then deliver
the jack and the first bowl.
Previously the winner of any scoring end could choose to
give the mat to the opposing player. Now the mat can only
be given away at the start of the game by the winner of
the toss of the coin to decide who starts the game.
Conditions Of Play:
Rule 17.2.2 Controlling Bodies that govern club
competitions which are purely social or recreational (no
club title or entry to district, national or international
title) can set aside Conditions Of Play which include
aspects of play that are different from those described
within the Laws of the Sport of Bowls.
This allows for a Club to set its own rules for a fun gala
– anything goes - but these rules or Conditions Of Play
must be conveyed to all participants.
*************************************************************
So, fellow bowlers, there we have it. When you read ‘should’
in the rules, this means ‘must’.
Skips, put a pen that works and a tossing coin in your
pocket, and Leads of winning ends, the mat is yours.
If you have any questions please ask one of our Umpires:
Dave Kaye, Bruce Mitchell; Craig Ennor, Frank Hosegood,
Jenny Hosegood or Peter Turnbull.

THE MIRACLE OF THE LIFT
A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father were in a shopping
mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but
especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart
and then slide back together again.
The boy asked, 'What is
this Father?' The father responded, 'Son, I have never seen
anything like this in my life,
I don't know what it
is.'
While the boy and his
father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a
wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button.
The walls opened, and
the lady rolled between them into a small room.
The walls closed, and
the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the
walls light up sequentially.. They continued to watch until it
reached the last number, and then the numbers began to light
in the reverse order.
Finally the walls opened
up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old woman stepped out.
The father, not taking
his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son,
'Go get your Mother.' |

TIME TO SHARE AND CARE
I have often said as a bowling family it is nice to share
special birthdays, anniversaries, etc .... so .... here are a
couple of photos taken at the weekend when our grandson was
married and all our family were together. One came from
London, four from Australia and the rest are from NZ. |
