Newsletter No 30 - April 25th 2011

THANK YOU EVERYONE
This will be my last newsletter for the season - time for a break. We belong to a club that is vibrant, resourceful, dedicated and challenging. A wide age-range bodes well for its future as does the long list of volunteers who do so much, often with little recognition from the rest of us. The good spirit that permeates our greens just doesn't happen. Your smiles, your chirpy greetings and your never-ending patience all testify to the sort of people that typify our club membership. The contribution each person makes is visible in the overall club spirit. Thank you.

On a more personal note I would like to thank Les Stuart for helping me with his camera skills. His photos made the newsletters more interesting and meaningful. Thanks also to those who sent results, information, humorous stories or encouragement. Your contribution was greatly appreciated and the website reflects that input.

Enjoy the winter months, travel safely, hibernate in comfort and keep well. See you next season.

CLOSING DAY
Despite Closing day conflicting with Easter Sunday attendance was good. Warm weather with a little high cloud made for ideal bowling conditions. Two games were played before everyone retired for a social hour followed by a few speeches and prizegiving. Of special importance was the departure of Bruce Mitchell. This was his last season with us before he and Wendy head to Brisbane permanently. His contribution to our club has been significant and it was endorsed by all present. Thank you, Bruce.

WAIRERE JUNIOR MEDLEY PAIRS

Two teams from Taradale entered the Wairere Junior Medley Pairs held at Wairere Bowling Club on the 17th of April. The teams were Gary deRidder & Richard Hocking and Dave Henderson & Rick Hocking.

The format for the tournament was two games of 2/4/2 Pairs and Reverse Pairs. Both of our teams recorded 3 wins out of 4 with Gary and Richard finishing 3rd overall and winning the section on A green on differential. Well done guys.

1st and 2nd place overall recorded 3 wins and a draw with the winning team coming from Havelock North.

WINTER BOWLS
The winter programme has been drafted and is as shown in the Clubroom. There have been some murmurings about the "conditions of entry" for the upcoming Friday Triples winter season i.e. only complete teams will be accepted and difficulty in getting a team together. There is a sheet in the clubroom for those members who are not already in a team and would like to play, so maybe those players can arrange teams amongst themselves to help overcome that dilemma. The reasoning behind this arrangement is that our entry controllers do a fabulous job with accepting and running our Friday tournaments and all too often get "hung out to dry" when a player or team fail to "front". This is a courtesy to them and was trialled very successfully last year. Remember Entries are now being taken and the winter season starts on the 13th May. The first 32 teams will be accepted with priority given to Taradale members until the 19th April. Remember play is in mufti and starts at 12 noon (not 12:30 as per the summer).
