FALCON ELECTRICAL
We have been extremely lucky to have had Falcon as one of our
sponsors for such a long period. Their support has been given in
many ways, but particularly with the assistance in both our
electronic timer and the new automatic greens irrigation system.
When I was talking to Richard (the current owner of Falcon) this
week he was telling me that he still has a few little things that he
and Allan (Haslett) are working on to ensure that we have the best
system available. Sponsorship like this is hard to come by and we
are very grateful for that support. Our sincere thanks to Richard
and the team at Falcon.

JUNIOR
BOWLERS SOCIAL TOURNAMENT
(Dave Henderson)
Some Junior bowlers are a bit confused as to what the ladder
competition displayed on the notice board is all about so we thought
it best to explain how it works and clarify a few points that have
been raised.
This ongoing tournament / ladder competition has been devised just to
get all our Junior Bowlers playing, to help raise the skill level of
our Junior squad and give experience in actual game situations with
bowlers of much the same level.
The “Ladder” has been split into groups of 3 with the intention that
you each play the other 2 bowlers in your group with the winner moving
up a division and the loser moving down a division.
The games are to be played over 10 ends (you can play longer if your
group wants to) under normal singles competition rules.
Each group of 3 organises a time that suits them to play.
What we’re trying to achieve –
Keep our Junior Bowlers playing regularly.
Give our Junior Bowlers experience at playing under match conditions.
Experience / Practice in reading heads.
Practise shot making skills in a social environment.
How to work out differentials. (Though they are not taken into account
in the result as it’s just win / loss)
Practise marking games.
The ideal scenario would be for all 3 bowlers in each group to
organise their games at the same time and one bowler act as a marker
as this will give further marking experience to compliment the courses
we have run.
By no means is this competition compulsory and if you feel you don’t
have the time, please just cross your name off the sheet as a new
sheet is displayed once everyone has completed the first games in
their group.
The current first round finishes on November 13th so for those keen to
participate please have your 2 games completed by then.
Hopefully most Junior Bowlers will get behind this initiative which
will only help our club become a force in Hawkes Bay Bowls in the
future. |

Some ways of dealing with the burdens of life
If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to be kind to others.
Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

ETIQUETTE TIP
|
FOLLOWING YOUR BOWL UP THE RINK
After you have delivered a bowl and before it has come to rest
you have two options;
-
Hurry
forward and get behind the head, or
-
Move
back on to, or behind, the mat.
If you want to
track your bowl's progress
you must be behind the head
when it stops. In other words you must beat it to the head. If
you don't go to the head
you must be behind the mat
when your bowl stops.

SALLY'S
REPORT CARD
Eight year old Sally brought her report card home from school. Her
marks were good, mostly A's and a couple of B's. However, her teacher
had written across the bottom:
"Sally is a smart little girl, but she has one fault. She talks too
much in school. I have an idea I am going to try, which I think may
break her of the habit."
Sally's dad signed her report card, putting a note on the back:
"Please let me know if your idea works on Sally because I would like
to try it out on her mother." |

REX HOLLAND R.I.P.
One of our regular bowlers of five or six years ago has just passed
away. Rex Holland, and his wife Elaine, both belonged to Bowls
Taradale when I first became a club member. After Elaine died Rex
continued bowling for a short while. We extend our sympathy to his
family in their loss.

QUESTION
You are standing on the mat watching your bowl roll towards the jack.
Sometimes a bowl finishes past the jack, sometimes it stops before the
jack.
If your bowl is 1 metre short of the jack is it high or low?

The best years of your life are the ones in
which you decide your problems are your own.
You do not blame them on your parents, the ecosystem, or the
government.
You realise that you control your own destiny.

Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the
family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune
when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with
whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, he
spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty
took his breath away.
"I may look like just an ordinary guy," he said to her, "but in just a
few years my father will die and I will inherit $200 million".
"Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three days
later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at financial planning than men.
