HOW TO HOLD A BOWL
Take the bowl in the non-bowling hand, place the
bowling hand on top of the bowl ensuring the middle finger is
positioned along the centre of the running surface of the bowl. Place
the index and third finger on top of the outer rings. Now allow the
thumb to position itself on the outer rings opposite the index finger,
with the little finger resting comfortably on the side of the bowl
with no pressure.
Turn the hand over in the delivery position outside the line of the
body, ensure the hand, elbow and shoulder are in line.
Check for correct bias.
The thumb and the little finger should only be used to support the
bowl in the hand.
ESTABLISH YOUR GREEN LINE
Decide on a marker (peg, tree, window, seat, etc)
Move eyes down to a point on the green about 2–3 metres away
Bowl over that point – THINK the weight
STAND THEN DELIVER
Place anchor foot (R foot if a right hander) on centre
of mat pointing along delivery line
Place lead foot (L foot) adjacent and parallel to
anchor foot
Feet are hip-width apart and weight evenly
distributed
Shoulders and hips square to the intended line
Body relaxed and upright
Anchor foot remains on mat during delivery
Most of the weight
transfers to the lead foot as you step out to bowl
·
Arm follows along intended line of delivery with palm
to heaven and head still
·
Lock the wrist and elbow
·
Left forearm (or hand) slides down left thigh
·
Stay low during delivery with body moving forward after
you release the bowl
·
Transfer weight to front foot |

Jimmy and Neil |
JIMMY SPILL R.I.P.
Word came through last Friday that Jimmy Spill had passed away.
Jimmy was a member of our club and regular competitor in the
Friday Triples up until a few short years ago. He loved the sport
and the prospect of having to stop bowling because of ill health
must have been difficult for him. Many a time you might have seen
Jimmy, along with his very good friend Neil Benfell, in the
supermarket or TAB. Jimmy always had a smile on his face and a
cheerful remark for all he met. All the members of our club mourn
his passing. |

QUESTION:
There must be a minimum of 2m between the ditch and the mat - but is
it between the ditch and the FRONT EDGE of the mat, or the ditch and
the REAR EDGE of the mat?
LAW 19 Placing the mat
Before the start of play in each end, the player to play first should
place the centre line of the mat lengthwise along the centre line of
the rink, with the mat line at least 2 metres from the rear
ditch and at least 25 metres from the front ditch.
Mat line
means the edge of the mat nearest to the front
ditch.
All measurements involving the mat and a jack or a bowl will be taken
from the centre of the mat line. |

Bowls Taradale is running a Cabaret and Dance evening on
Saturday November 20th with music from the 60's. It is

BLONDE
BAR
A blind man wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds
his way to a bar stool and orders a beer. After sitting there for
awhile, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, You wanna hear a blonde
joke?'
The bar
immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the
woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Sir, I think it is
only fair -- given that you are blind -- that you should know five
things:
1.
The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2.
The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3.
I'm a 6 foot tall, 175 lb. blonde woman with a black belt in
Karate.
4.
The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional
weightlifter.
5.
The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.
Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that
joke?'
The
blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,
"No... Not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times!" |
