Centre Opening
Last Wednesday Bowls Hawkes Bay had their Opening Day using
our greens. Brilliant sunshine helped ensure a pleasant
time for all of the 120 bowlers who came to celebrate the
season's opening. We hope the following months continue in the
same vein for all bowlers in our region.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CLUB CAPTAIN RE
OCTOBER 2,3
There has been some discussion/concern among members
surrounding a decision your committee has made relating to our
greens and availability for the upcoming weekend of the 2nd
and 3rd of October. While your committee is fully aware that
there was a resolution passed at an AGM that there should be a
green available for "roll ups", there are also circumstances
that arise where a considered decision has to be made and some
understanding given for "bending the rules".
As it is early in the season and a
lot of "natural" greens are still not up to the state where
they can manage heavy traffic, we, with our all-weather
facility can. We were approached by Bowls H.Bay to see whether
we could host the mixed 2x4x2 championships, which were unable
to be held last year for this very reason.
After lengthy discussion by your
committee it was felt that, given the opportunity to get
payment, albeit relatively minor, and the financial situation
of the "Mother Club" and providing we could ensure that there
was a green available for our club members to "roll up" that
we would agree to host the competition.
We approached Bowls Napier as we
felt that a lot of our very new members do not get an
opportunity to play on grass and might appreciate the chance
to have a non competitive experience on natural greens. Bowls
Napier were extremely happy to host us and we thank them for
their generosity. We felt that by offering this alternative we
in some way are still fulfilling our commitment to providing a
green for members to have their roll up.
We hope you view this decision in
the same light as we did, as we felt it was in the best
interests of our sport.

BREAKING
NEWS
Two days ago I had a phone call from Steve Pearce, Toast
Computers, in Carnell St. He is impressed by the number of bowlers who have
patronised his business and wants to show his appreciation. He has
kindly offered to give Bowls Taradale a brand new computer, worth
$1000. The club will decide how this might best be utilised - possibly
as a raffle prize to raise money for our club. I will let you know the
outcome when a decision is made. This is yet another reminder to
please support our sponsors. |

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE
It is important you develop your own pre-shot routine.
This will help ensure a consistent and accurate
delivery.
·
Decide on the type of shot (draw, run, drive, yard on,
etc)
·
Stand 1m behind the mat
·
Position the bowl in the hand
·
Select an object on the far bank which will help get your focus point
·
Move onto the mat |

Question:
Do I have to stand with both feet on the mat before I deliver a bowl?
Law 20 Position on the mat
Before delivery a player should be standing on the mat with one foot
fully on the mat.
At the moment they deliver the jack or a bowl, the player should have
all or part of one foot on or above the mat.

Bowls
HB Coaching Programme
(Bowls HB website)
An extremely popular and successful 2010 coaching programme concluded
at Bowls Heretaunga last Thursday evening. An average of approximately
25 players attended each clinic, and the coaching staff must be
delighted with the noticeable improvement of all participants.
Can you count all the Bowls Taradale people in the
photo (at least six)? |

RESPECT THE OPPOSITION
People play bowls for enjoyment.
It will be more satisfying if you are mindful of your opponents.
Be ready.
Always be on time for the start of play and for the start of each
game.
Start and finish a game with a handshake. |
CABARET AND DANCE - NOV
20
(Reminder No 2)
Bowls Taradale is running a Cabaret and Dance evening on
Saturday November 20th with music from the 60's. It is
our effort to help support the Mother club. Pencil it in on your
calendar, try to encourage as many as possible to come along and make
up a group yourself. You will not be disappointed. |
Intelligence v Wisdom
A good lead shows intelligence and promise when he can
spot a flaw in his skip's bowling.
He shows wisdom as well if he refrains from pointing it
out. |
PREGNANCY
AND EXERCISE
The room was full of pregnant women with their partners. The class was
in full swing, the instructor was teaching the women how to breathe
properly and he was telling the men how to give the necessary
assurance to their partners at this stage of the pregnancy.
She said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is
especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make
delivery that much easier!" She looked at the men in the room, "and
gentlemen, remember -- you're in this together --- it wouldn't hurt
you to
go walking with her."
The room got very quiet as the men absorbed this information. Then a
man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand.
"Yes?" answered the teacher.
"I was just wondering. Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while
we walk?" |
