Up Date "B" Green
With the fine weather we were able to make good progress at the beginning of the week. The top 50mm of sand was removed, repairs to the geo- textile (the matting material under the sand) were completed and the sub-base compacted. The stone dust arrived on Tuesday and was put on the Green on Wednesday and grading of the surface has continued throughout the week. All of the materials have been delivered, the Carpet, Tiger Bond liquid and the sand for top dressing of the Green. If anyone is on the Green on Monday, don't despair if the Carpet is taken away, unfortunately the Carpet was damaged in transit and a new carpet will be delivered on Monday/Tuesday. If the weather stays fine we may still be on target for completion by the end of September!!!

Astro Grass Sale
Well done to all those Members and their friends who purchased a piece of History. The sale of the old green raised $480.00. A special thanks to Kevin Hook, Bernie Menefy and Alan Boardman for the help with loading trailers, utes etc. Also a thank you to Frank Grantham for his help with some of the deliveries. The exercise saved us $1,000.00 in Tip charges and $100.00/200.00 Transport costs.

In addition to the money raised by the sale Mark Bentley, the person who took a portion of the green for a tennis court, has given a $100.00 voucher to the Club - this voucher could be used as a raffle prize.

Coach

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE (Do this before you step onto the mat)
It is important you develop your own pre-shot routine. This will help ensure a consistent and accurate delivery.

  • Decide on the type of shot (draw, run, drive, yard on, etc)

  • Position the bowl in the hand

  • Identify the line

  • Visualise the shot (line, weight)

  • Confirm the line and focus point

  • Move onto the mat

Humour

Question:
What do you do with someone who can't draw, can't roll the jack, can't set the mat, can't keep score and won't listen?

Answer:
Make them skip.

The Law

Short Ends
The umpire during a recent tournament had to use the long tape measure to see if the jack was the correct minimum distance. What is the shortest legal distance from the centre front of the mat to the jack?   (a) 19m   (b) 21m   (c) 23m   (d) 25m

Law 23   Improper Delivery of the Jack
The jack has been improperly delivered if it comes to rest:

·         in the ditch;
·         completely outside the boundaries of the rink;
·         less than
23 metres from the mat line after the jack has been centred;
·         on the rink after contact with the face of the bank; or
·         on the rink after contact with any object or person completely outside the boundaries of the rink.

Quote
IT’S OK TO TRY AND FAIL (but don't tell the AB's)
When I started bowling I heard people say time and time again - "You lose more games than you win" - so this quote is appropriate.

Michael Jordan said “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Etiquette - On The Mat
Remember the mat belongs to the player who has just delivered a bowl. He/she has the right to stay on the mat until the bowl stops.

Lie the mat straight in line with the number on the bank and the centre of the mat. When you are on the mat waiting to bowl please check to see if anyone is delivering a bowl on the adjacent rink.

Tuesday mornings will not suit everyone and I am sure not everyone wants to be coached by me so it is important we have variety. If any others want to coach just let me know what day and what time suits you and I will publish it in the next newsletter.
