B Green
Update
Final Update
The excellent weather has enabled Tiger Turf to keep to the schedule for completion by the end of September. The Astro grass was laid on Tuesday /Wednesday and the top dressing of 14 tons of sand was put onto the Green on Friday. Unfortunately we require a further 2/3 ton of sand to complete the top dressing and hopefully this will be delivered on Monday. If the sand arrives on Monday the Green could be handed over on Tuesday evening. The final grooming and rolling will take 2/3 days before the Green is ready to play on.  Dave J.

Thank you to the many who played a role in making our new green become a reality; those with vision who planned the project and set it in motion, the many who worked on it, those who gave monetary support and the many who encouraged and supported the venture. Special gratitude must go to the men who came from beyond Hawkes Bay and worked so hard. Well done, everyone.

Wise Words
ITS ALL IN THE MIND
If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win but think you can’t
It is almost certain you wont

Coach
Establishing The Correct Line
Stand 1m behind the mat
Select a permanent object on the far bank
Form an imaginary line back through the mat to your preshot position
Establish a focus point along that line where you will look during the delivery
Move onto the mat
Place the lead foot adjacent and parallel (but hip width apart) from the anchor foot
Deliver the bowl along the line aiming at the focus point

Baby Photos
Who is this?

what about this?

and this?
For a bit of fun would you like to send me a photo of yourself and let the others guess who it is? A scanned image is best but if you don't have a scanner I can do it for you from a photo.

Can anyone guess who these people are?

Has anyone seen my lunch?

The Law
Jack Low  or  Jack High
You are standing on the mat watching your bowl roll towards the jack. Sometimes a bowl finishes past the jack, sometimes it stops before the jack. If your bowl is 1 metre short of the jack is it high or low?

Have Patience After A Bowl Is Delivered
If you are waiting for your opponent to deliver the last bowl wait until he/she moves off the mat before placing the mat on the bank. Wait for him/her to move up the green before you move off.

BOWLS HAWKE'S BAY COACHING ASSOCIATION
The Centre Board is keen to set up a Coaching Association in Bowls Hawkes Bay. We believe it will not only benefit Coaches but also improve the standard of Bowls. With the new Board structure it is important that groups like Coaches have an input into the organisation and operation of Bowls and a means of communicating with the Board.

Membership is Open To: Certified Coaches, Non-Certified Coaches (or non-current Coaches), Any person who is interested and may already coach at a Club level, Interested Bowlers
Refer to Bowls HB website for more details

Handbook Errors
We are aware that there are some errors and omissions ( not all our fault ). One error we would like to draw your attention to is the Umpire’s tournament at Havelock North Tuesday 18th November. It should be hetero triples NOT fours, and the start time is 10 a.m. NOT 9a.m.

News
Bunny Heslin R.I.P.
We were sad to hear of the passing of Bunny during the week (21/9/08). Bunny was a regular weekday bowler, often stayed for a drink afterwards and was always a pleasure to meet and socialise with. He was a real gentleman and we will miss him and his Southland burr. Bunny's funeral service was held last Tuesday in Henderson, Auckland.

Bay View has a website
Four local clubs (Taradale, Heretaunga, Havelock North, Bay View) now have websites and links to each are at the top of this page. If you get a chance have a look at them. Jo Hayes has been responsible for getting Bay View onto the internet. Well done Jo and congratulations Bay View.
