If you aren't going all the way, why go at all?
You owe it to yourself to be the best you can possibly be.
The first step in any success is showing up. |

We all Have Responsibilities
Bowls is a friendly game. Consideration for others, courtesy and
being a good sport will add enjoyment to a skilful and rewarding
pastime. If all bowlers were familiar with what their
responsibilities are as players and as club members many of the
little unpleasantries that crop up would be avoided.

THE
IDEAL SKIP:
To make a success of skipping players must have a lot of
confidence in their own ability. They must be top-notch draw
bowlers because more often than not this is the shot they have
to play. If their draw shot is not their best and most
consistent shot they should not be skipping. They must be
capable of good trail shots, firm shots to rest bowls or push
them through and must also be accurate drivers. The skip
should only drive when they can afford to do so. Every shot
must have a definite objective and if there is a danger that
one’s own bowls will be lost then the shot should not be
played.
The skip must try to get the very best out of the side.
Stressing the obvious such as too narrow, too wide or too fast
will not give the poor player who has played the bad shot any
confidence. Skips must overlook poor shots and let the players
know they believe in them and know they will do better.
Harmony in a side is just as important as the bowls that are
played.
Skips have to realise that every player in the side is doing
their best. If they give the impression, by word or action,
that they have lost confidence in the team then it is skip’s
fault when the standard of play quickly deteriorates.

A Short Bowl
You deliver a bowl but it doesn’t go very far – only about 8m
down the green. How far does a bowl have to travel to be
considered live?
Law 27 Dead bowl
A bowl is a dead bowl if after completing its original course or
after being moved as a result of play, it comes to rest less
than 14 metres as measured in a straight line from the mat line

THE SENILITY PRAYER
:
Grant me the senility to forget the people
I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and
the eyesight to tell the difference.
