Maureen Pedersen R.I.P.
Although we knew Maureen's time with us was going to be
limited, her passing a couple of days ago brought both sadness
and relief to all who knew her. Sadness because we were losing a
much cherished friend and relief because her suffering was over
and she is now at rest. Maureen had so many qualities that all of us admired. She was
patient, tolerant, gentle and humble, she loved people and was
interested in everyone, she had a warmth and charm that was
infectious, she smiled constantly even when unwell, she was a
very able bowler who loved the sport deeply ........ and the
list goes on and on ..... and everybody loved her. We will
miss you Maureen and we grieve for our loss. Pedro, please
accept our sincere sympathy and know we are there for you and
your family.A service for Maureen will
be held this coming Friday at the Taradale Club commencing at
1.00 pm. Bowlers wishing to attend are asked to please do so in
their bowling whites. Thanks

Women's Pennants
Last Tuesday and Wednesday at the Port Ahuriri Bowling Club Bowls Taradale fielded three teams in
the Women's Pennants. Poor weather on the first day meant a
delayed start. By all accounts our women were competitive and
can feel pleased with their efforts. Omarunui won Division One
and Heretaunga won Divisions Two and Three.
Hawkes Bay Men's and Women's
Junior Singles
It was a healthy sign when six of our Junior ladies and nine Junior men competed in the HB Junior Singles over the weekend. Of even greater significance
was the emergence of some new bowlers. Geoff Taylor (Year 1), Barry
Gardiner (Year 2) and Dave Roberts (Year 3) made post-Section
play in the men's section.
The women's section
was dominated by our young talented sisters, Angela and
Mandy Boyd. Both played outstanding bowls over the two day
period and finished competing against each other in the final.
Congratulations to Angela Boyd for winning the HB Women's Junior
Singles title.

On
The Mat
Remember the mat belongs to the player who has just delivered a
bowl. He/she has the right to stay on the mat until the bowl
stops.
Lie the mat straight in line with the number on the bank and the
centre of the mat. When you are on the mat waiting to bowl
please check to see if anyone is delivering a bowl on the
adjacent rink.

BE A GOOD MEMBER:
Learn the laws of the game and if you want to succeed practise
as often as you can - and include the rolling of the jack. Be
proud of your club and protect it from gossip. If you
disapprove of some action taken by your committee, tell the
committee, not the world. Support your club's revenue making
activities - the benefits will come back to you.

One Player Forgot To Play a Bowl
During a recent game of pairs (2.4.2) one of the players forgot
to play her 4th bowl. She walked down the other end of the rink
and waited for her partner to play her last two bowls. Each team
then delivered one bowl before the spare 4th bowl was
discovered. What should now happen? Can the bowl still be played
or is the shot forfeited?
LAW 47.4 Failing to play
If a bowl has been played by each team before the players
discover that one of them has failed to play a bowl in the
proper order, that player will lose the right to play the
bowl.
If the result of an end has been agreed or the process of
deciding the number of shots scored has started, a player who
has failed to play a bowl will lose the right to play the bowl.

Last Tuesday was St Patrick's Day
..... so .....
An Irishman and his mate were having a drink in the pub. Mike
says to Paddy, "I see yer glass is empty, Paddy, would ye be
after another one? "
"Now, Mike, what would I be wanting with two empty glasses?"
Paddy replies.An American
tourist was boasting to an Irishman how advanced the Americans
are. "Gee, we've even put a man on the moon." "That's nothing,"
replied the Irishman, "we're going to put a man on the sun."
"Don't be stupid," said the American," "he'll fry before he even gets
there."
"Oh no, he won't. We're sending him at night."
His wife had been
killed in an accident and the police were questioning Finnegan.
"Did she say anything before she died?" asked the sergeant.
"She spoke without interruption for about forty years," said the
Irishman.
