GARDNER SHIELD
Both our teams had wins last Monday so the flowers in our garden are looking rosy at the moment.
However, next week Taradale has a bye -  the final day's play for our boys will be on December 3 against Wairere at Port Ahuriri.
We wish everyone well.

A teddy bear is working on a building site.
He goes for a tea break and when he returns he notices his pick has been stolen.
The bear is angry and reports the theft to the foreman.
The foreman grins at the bear and says "Oh, I forgot to tell you, today's the day the teddy bears have their pick nicked."

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
A couple was Christmas shopping at the mall on Christmas Eve and the mall was packed. As the wife walked through the mall she was surprised to look up and see her husband was nowhere around. She was quite upset because they had a lot to do. Because she was so worried, she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was.

In a calm voice, the husband said, "Honey, you remember the jewellery store we went into about five years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that I would get it for you one day?"

The wife choked up and started to cry and said, "Yes, I remember that jewellery store."

He said, "Well, I'm in the bar right next to it."

HOW TO DELIVER THE JACK
Deliver the jack using the same action as for a bowl
Hold the jack on the main fingers with your thumb on top and wrist locked
Move onto the mat
Anchor foot is placed on the centre of the mat
Identify the line

Move your eyes down to a point on the green about 2–3 metres away
Deliver the jack over that point – THINK the weight

Lock the wrist and elbow
Stay low during the delivery with your body moving forward after you release the jack
Arm follows along intended line of delivery with palm to heaven and head still
Transfer weight to front foot

ETIQUETTE
Help clear the head
after the result
has been determined

YOUR BOWL AND A NEIGHBOURING JACK COLLIDE
I have just delivered my bowl and when I look up I see someone on the next rink delivering their jack.
Both the bowl and the jack are heading on a collision course.
What should happen? Do you stop the jack? Do you stop the bowl?

If a moving jack and moving bowl are going to collide - you let them. They are both redelivered

LAW 33.3     Jack displacement by a neutral person or neutral object
If a jack in its original course is displaced by a neutral person or neutral object, it should be re-delivered by the same player.

The opportunity to introduce non bowling friends comes late January with our Summerset Community Bowls Competition.
Lots of fun and enjoyment over 7 consecutive twilight evenings.
Would be much appreciated if members could enter with non bowling friends.
Rules are simple. Two bowl triples, one registered bowler only per team and they cannot skip.
More entries will expand this competition from the 20 or so teams we have had in the last two years.
Please give this one serious thought and who knows you may be instrumental in getting new bowlers to the game and our Club.
Lucky and Craig will welcome a team entry from you.

The World’s Best Battle It Out
From 24 November until 9 December the world’s best lawn bowlers will gather on the greens of Adelaide for the 2012 World Bowls Championships, the pinnacle event in World Bowls.

The New Zealand Black Jacks landed in Adelaide a week ago and have been using their time for final preparations on the greens at Lockleys and Holdfast Bowling Clubs which will host the tournament. This is the second time in history in which the men’s and women’s championships have been held together, with the first time being in Christchurch in 2008.

The Championships will feature 27 countries and is as big as it gets, often being referred to as the ‘Olympics’ of bowls. Countries will send their men’s and women’s teams to Adelaide to decide the World Champions of 2012 in men’s and women’s fours, triples, pairs, singles as well as the Leonard Trophy (overall men’s champion country) and the Taylor Trophy (overall women’s champion country).

PS Lynda and Angela Boyd are over there watching Mandy play for NZ. We hope they enjoy their time in Adelaide.
"Good Bowling," Mandy

JERUSALEM'S WAILING WALL
A female journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem to pray twice a day, every day, for a long, long time. To check it out, she went to the Wall, and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site. She watched him pray, and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview.

"Pardon me Sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from New Zealand's TV3. What's your name?

"Morris Feinberg," he replied

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Wailing Wall to pray?"

"For about 60 years.""60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"

"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims."

"I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop."

"I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults, and to love their fellow man."

"And how do you feel, Sir, after doing this for 60 years?" asked the journalist.

"It's like talking to a ****ing brick wall."
