BE PROUD OF YOUR CLUB
Learn the laws of the game and if you want to succeed
practise as often as you can - and include the rolling
of the jack. Be proud of your club and protect it from
gossip. If you disapprove of some action taken by your
committee, tell the committee, not the world. Support
your club's revenue making activities - the benefits
will come back to you.
BE SELFISH
All opposition needs to be treated with respect. However
whilst respect is essential, focusing on one’s own
performance is the key to success. You have no control
over how well or how poorly the opposition is going to
perform. LEAVE THEM ALONE - play your own game.
STAY
ON YOUR OWN RINK
When walking up the green try and keep to the
middle.
Don’t encroach on the adjoining rink.
Remember the other players.

My young grandson called the other day to wish me
Happy Birthday.
He asked me how old I was, and I told him, 80.
My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked,
"Did you start at 1?"
HAWKES BAY WOMEN'S JUNIOR PAIRS
Kia Toa was the venue for the Women's Junior Pairs where we had
two pairs competing. June Taylor and Raewyn Cooper had
two wins and narrowly missed out on making
Post-Section play. The other couple, Cheryl Simpson
and Olive de Ridder, scored three wins yesterday and
that was enough to get them down to the last five.
Unfortunately that was as far as they reached but well
done all the same.

CORRECT JACK PLACEMENT
Where do you place the jack when it has to put on the 2m mark. Do
you have the front (leading) edge of the jack on the
horizontal line or is it the back (trailing) edge?

MULTIPLE
BIRTHS
In the back woods of Scotland, Ian's wife went into labour in the
middle of the night, and the doctor was called out to assist in
the delivery.
To keep the nervous father-to-be
busy, the doctor handed him a lantern and said: "Here, you hold
this high so I can see what I'm doing." Soon, a wee baby boy was
brought into the world.
"Whoa there Ian!" said the doctor.
"Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's yet
another wee one to come yet."
Sure enough, within minutes he had
delivered a bonnie lass.
"No, no, don't be in a great hurry
to be putting down that lantern, lad...It seems there's yet
another one besides!" cried the doctor.
Then Ian scratched his head in
bewilderment, and asked the doctor: "Do ye think it's the light
that's attractin' them?" |

TARADALE'S
DAVE HENDERSON WINS HAWKES BAY MEN'S JUNIOR SINGLES
Ten of our men took part in this event over the weekend and a
gratifying five Taradale bowlers made Post-Section play today. They were Lloyd
Fitness, Ken Robson, Dave Henderson, Les Dunnett and Barry
Gardner. Glorious weather, good greens and an enthusiastic group
of onlookers made for an enjoyable spectacle. Unfortunately when
half of the bowlers belong to our club it means Taradale has to
play Taradale. Dave Henderson was the only local player left
standing at the semifinals. Greg Hodges (H Nth) beat John Young in
one semifinal. The other semifinal between Dave Henderson and
Brian Doyle (H Nth) was won by Dave Henderson.
The final between Dave
and Greg followed and was eventually taken out convincingly by
Dave. The score was approximately 21-11. Congratulations, Dave, on
a well deserved Hawkes Bay title. |

Trans Tasman Review
(by Colleen Ferrick)
The final overall result saw Australia dominate the test series by
winning 6 tests to 1. Richard Hocking’s (Taradale) Under 18 Men’s
side (coached by Howard Sandler and Janice Papp) was the only team
to prevail against the skilful Aussies by winning their rubber
2/1. Taradale’s Angela Boyd’s Development combination lost the
first two tests, but displayed fortitude by defeating Australia
the third test of the series.

SHARING
AND CARING
A man and woman had been married for more than 63 years. They had
shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept
no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a
shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her
husband never to open or ask her about.
For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but
one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said it
will take time to heal. ...
In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down
the shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that it
was time that he should know what was In the box. When he opened
it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totalling
$95,000.
He asked her about the contents. 'When we were to be married,' she
said, ' my grandmother told me that the secret of a happy marriage
was to never argue. She told me that If I ever got angry with you,
I should just keep quiet and crochet a doll.'
The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears.
Only two precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry
with him two times in all those years of living and loving. He
almost burst with happiness. 'Honey,' he said, 'that explains the
doll, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?'
'Oh,' she said, 'that's the money I made from selling the dolls.'

A Prayer.......
Dear God, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man;
Love to forgive him; And Patience for his moods;
Because God, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death,
Because I don't have time to crochet. |
