CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
The following events were played on Saturday at Havelock North
WOMEN'S
FOURS: L Law, S Belcher, H Leyland, W Hicks. (Havelock Nth.)
beat E Wiggins, G Riddell, L Stowe, M Francis (Heretaunga) 16-12
MEN'S PAIRS: Havelock North (G Fulford, G Hedges) beat Waipukurau
Today at Port Ahuriri Bowls Taradale
made both Champion of Champions Finals.
In the Women's Triples Angela Boyd (skip),
Sheryl Glock,
Barbara Exeter reached the final where they played Omarunui. A
slow start meant they were playing catch-up for much of the game.
They eventually went under 15-11 to Dot Palmer, Robin Wallis and
Ngaire McKinley but congratulations for getting so far and
performing so well.
Outstanding, in the Men's Champion of
Champions Men's Singles, was Phil Young . The bowling I saw was
really special - magnificent draw bowling and accurate weighted
shots were a delight to watch. In the final Phil played Phil (Omarunui's
Phil Stephens). All I have is the final score 21-14 but I am sure
it too was a great tussle. Congratulations Phil on your success. |

YOUR SKIP IS BOSS
The person on the head has no right to tell the Skip what to do.
He may advise him if the head has been altered after the Skip has
left it, but he must not control his play.
The etiquette in this case is to remain silent until the Skip asks
for advice. |

During some Bowls Hawkes Bay events played
recently there appeared to be some discrepancies in how some
individual team members were dressed. Do you know what the
regulations are in this matter?

Law 3 PLAYERS CLOTHING
3.1
Club Tournaments: For Club Tournaments, playing attire shall be
determined by the Club.
3.2
Open Tournaments: For any Tournament other than a Club Tournament,
players in Singles and members of Teams or Sides must wear
garments of the same colour/design as determined by the Tournament
Controlling Body. Any garment may have logos displayed, but the

to ensure that there is no conflict with a Tournament sponsor.
3.3
The Chief Executive of Bowls NZ may approve variations to clause
3.2 of this Regulation upon written application from any Centre
for any specific events, games, Teams or Sides.
3.4

THE
STUTTERING KITTEN
A teacher is explaining biology to her 2nd grade students.
"Human beings are the only animals that stutter,' she says.
A little girl raises her hand. 'I had a kitten who stuttered.'
The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could
become, asked the girl to describe the incident.
"Well," she began, 'I was in the back yard with my kitten and the
rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we
knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!'
'That must've been scary,' said the teacher.
'It sure was,' said the little girl. 'My kitten raised her back,
went "Ffffff!, Ffffff!, Ffffff," but before she could say
'F**k-off !,' the rottweiler ate her!
The teacher had to leave the room. |

PUNCTUALITY
WAS NOT HIS STRONG POINT
Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to
get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But
he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and
a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their
"Older Person Friendly" policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.
"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a
bang-up job when you finally get here; but you being late so often
is quite bothersome."
"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."
"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.
"Yes sir, I understand your concern and I’ll try harder."
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, It's odd though
you coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces.
What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so
late and so often?"
The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled.
He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, "They usually saluted
and said, 'Good morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, sir?'" |
